Sebastian Waschnick

Professional geek, tech lead and product builder

About Me

I choose to be a software engineer and lean start-up practitioner. I believe in pragmatism, open communication and data. My preferred setup is “loosely coupled but highly aligned”.

Within a team I take the role of facilitator and driver. I favor structured over volatile, passion over casualness, trust over control. With a high sense of ownership, proven leadership capabilities and a strong desire to ship value to customers, I'm a highly motivated individual.

On my desk you will find Daniel Pink’s 'Drive', Juergen Apello’s 'Management 3.0' and Eric Ries’s 'The Lean Startup'. And a mechanical keyboard and lot's of hardware to tinker around with.

I enjoy architecting and creating cutting-edge products and I surround myself with inspired, innovative and positive people so that I can grow with them and achieve epic stuff.

Work Experience

Consultant / Freelancer at Zeile7 GmbH
Nov 2020 - Present
As a consultant for the boutique agency Zeile7, I delivered tailored solutions to various of their clients. This includes helping companies with their IT strategies, for example the migration of dektop software into the cloud or creating a big data enabled cloud architecture. It also includes doing trainings and workshops, to help them with upskilling their own engineers. Furthermore, I played a key role in assisting clients with their staffing requirements, optimizing their recruitment processes, and crafting efficient recruiting funnels. This involved end-to-end consulting for the whole process, spanning from refining job descriptions to conducting interviews and implementing coding challenges.
Chief Architect at ÜberseeHubb GmbH
Mar 2023 - Dec 2023
As the Chief Architect at Sparkasse Bremen's FinTech subsidiary, I spearheaded the development of new groundbreaking products in the realm of real estate finance. We successfully launched various FinTech products, where I led the development of a new platform catering to all the different real estate needs, along with crafting the "effi" app, with a unique take on the mortgage financing process. We also implemented multiple lean startup methods to explore potential products, employing extensive tracking and marketing tools for validation. I managed the ongoing development, maintenance, and seamless operation of existing applications, notably Manni (personal finance app) and Baufi (mortgage financing app).
Producer & Host at TheInnovationEngineer Podcast
May 2022 - Present
Welcome to The Innovation Engineer Podcast, your favorite place for picking brains of your favorite engineers. So grab your nerdiest mug, fill it with your beverage of choice and enjoy. If you're a Developer, an Engineering Manager, Tech Decision Maker or anyone interested in the world of engineering and innovation - this is your place. Each episode we ask ourselves the latest question coming from the wonderful world of technology.

As the host and producer of The Innovation Engineer Podcast, I orchestrate the entire production process. Video and audio production is a hobby of mine and I love to learn how to work with cameras, lights and microphones. That's why I put a lot of effort into creating all the assets myself and producing every aspect of the podcast by hand and why we use 4k cameras and do not rely on additional software or take shortcuts.
